
This prospect area contains approximately 4,000 acres located in northern Nevada. Nevada has a storied past with its history of prolific oil wells. The greatest example of Nevada oil potential is the huge Grant Canyon Field. Drilled in 1986, Grant Canyon No. 3 was the most prolific onshore oil well in the continental United States, flowing up to 4,300 barrels of oil per day. The cumulative production over the life of this well is over 20 million barrels. Other wells have produced large quantities of oil over 1,000 BOPD initially, when drilled correctly within the unique geology of the state. Most Nevada production comes from Devonian aged rocks. The prospect area also contains a substantial block of buried Devonian rocks, bound at the highest point by a large fault zone also known as a lineament.
The Grant Canyon #3 was drilled into a large open fracture, a 15′ cavern, filled with oil in Devonian aged rock just below a few thousand feet of valley fill which created the reservoir cap. Nevada has undergone many significant geological events and in some cases, entire sections of mountains are overturned and buried, creating huge fractured reservoirs. Large, open faults create huge paths for oil to migrate into and draw oil from large areas within a structure. Oil moves into these structures and is trapped by updip faulting and formation seals, created by fine valley fill, deposited by erosion and glacier activity over millions of years. The origin of such prolific oil deposits like the Grant Canyon #3 are attributable to the Chainman Shale, located in the deepest parts of the valleys, which generates oil that migrates upward until trapped in a fault bound structures or structurally high formations.
Rangeford Resources maintains the largest majority holding of interest in the 4,000-acre prospect area, with the other minority interests participating in the development of the area who possess knowledge and experience with Nevada oil well drilling. This area has access to roads and electrical services, making all aspects of the drilling and completion process much less difficult.
Potential oil plays may exist just under the valley fill cap that is estimated to be approximately 1,600 to 2,000’ ft thick. The slide fault that creates the up dip trap is intersected at sharp angles by other faults in several places, creating a number of potential target blocks to be developed.
